Mackerel Safranski explores how the body is perceived and shaped within social structures. Drawing from literature, news, and daily observations, she composes figures and scenes marked by ambiguity and tension. Narratives hinting at migration, violence, and isolation reflect her interest in the “external body,” understood as something recognized and responded to through social relations. This exploration continues in her ongoing project Room Tone, presented at Liste 2026, where the body unfolds as a spatial condition, lingering between presence and disappearance.
Mackerel Safranski (b.1984) has recently exhibited at the 11th Seoul Mediacity Biennale (2021), West Den Haag (2023), Viborg Museum (2019), Gangneung International Art Festival (2024), and Kukje Gallery (2025). Her works are held in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and Seoul Museum of Art.
