Anca Poterasu Gallery is delighted to propose for its second participation at Liste, a solo presentation by Megan Dominescu, an artist whose practice uses irony and satire to spotlight urgent social issues, including feminist theories, climate change, gentrification, consumerism, and the performative dynamics of online culture. Her works unfold as haunting, intellectually engaging narratives that oscillate between gravity and absurdity. Each piece offers a self-contained story set within distinctive, eccentric worlds, a hyper-mediated reality meticulously rendered in tapestry. She speaks from the perspective of her generation that inherited a collapsing economy, an inheritance experienced and amplified through the frantic pulse of social media.
Megan Dominescu (b. 1997, Netherlands; lives and works in Bucharest, Romania) graduated from the Department of Painting at the National University of the Arts, Bucharest in 2018. Born in the Netherlands to Romanian and American parents, Megan grew up in Washington, D.C. and later moved to Bucharest, Romania. Her clashing background is a strong inspiration in her practice. Using humor as a weapon, Megan’s work is focused on observing and documenting the absurd, shedding light on cultural contrasts and celebrating the bizarre. She is a member of the multidisciplinary art space MOXA20 in Bucharest.
