Lydia Ericsson Wärn continually returns to her own reposed body. This repetition has become almost ritualistic – a continued effort to produce new outcomes while revisiting the same subject each time, an ongoing reckoning with the self. For Liste 2026, each canvas presents an undefined space that holds a form, the figures suspended between presence and dissolution.

Lydia often refers to these recurring figures as ‘scaffolding’ – an immovable presence that is alternately absorbed into or born from surrounding swathes of colour. Her approach oscillates between concealment and revelation, some figures are buried beneath successive layers of oil, while in others the primer is left visible as it was first applied.

Lydia Ericsson Wärn (b. 1994) lives and works in Stockholm. She is a graduate of HfBK Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main (2022) where she studied under Amy Sillman and Monika Baer. Recent exhibitions have been held at Brunette Coleman in London, ISSUES in Stockholm, Meredith Rosen Gallery in New York, Neue Alte Brücke in Frankfurt am Main and Galerie Nordenhake in Stockholm. The artist’s own body is a recurring subject in her work, presenting the self as something that is not fixed but continually reconstituted.
