Catinca Tabacaru presents a solo exhibition by Somaliland artist Najaax Harun, unfolding a space suspended between history and narrative where Herbert Bayer’s “expanded vision” is rearticulated as a method for exceeding fixed modes of perception. Through ten paintings, Harun examines women’s lives and the erasure of identity as clan affiliation shifts through marriage, probing patriarchal structures and contested notions of belonging in post-war society.

Najaax Harun (b. 1995, Somaliland) was born in the aftermath of civil war, amid a period marked by return, rupture, and a marked shift in communal expression. Her practice engages the silences that emerged in post-war Somaliland, reviving stories submerged within collective memory. Through painting, Harun examines how historical rupture shapes cultural narratives, foregrounding storytelling as a means of reclaiming presence, continuity, and social memory.
