John Knight, The wilderness of mirrors (4), 2021, Photo by Kalaija Mallery
John Knight utilises frameworks of counterculture to reconfigure viewership through spatial orientation, oftentimes drawing from historical uses of the architecture he exhibits in. Knight’s solo presentation at Liste will consist of the first public presentation of the artist’s 2021 monochromatic painting series that was installed in a historic jail cell in rural Basin, Montana, where the artist’s paintings were vandalised by local youths due to the low security of the open air site.
John Knight (b. 1986 in Ohio) lives and works in Missoula, Montana. Recent exhibitions have been held at Grunts Rare Books, Chicago; Damien & The Love Guru, Brussels; Chris Andrews Gallery, Montreal; Final Hot Desert, London; Apparatus Projects, Chicago; Montana Artist Refuge Gallery, Basin; Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, Salt Lake City; BSMNT, Leipzig; Julius Ceasar, Chicago, and Muscle Beach, Portland. He has an upcoming solo exhibition at Final Hot Desert, London in November, 2026.
