For Liste 2026, MATTA presents a site-specific project by Maximilian Arnold that continues and amplifies the research initiated with his exhibition Freed from Desire (2025). Within the fair, where images compete with one another in a condition of continuous saturation, the artist chooses a strategy of subtraction and discard: a single line of works crosses the booth like an unrolled film strip, a sequence of frames extracted from a broader flow, of which only an intermittent trace remains.
Maximilian Arnold (b.1987) is a German artist based in Berlin. After studying at the AdBK Karlsruhe (class of Toon Verhoef) and the Städelschule Frankfurt a. Main (class of Willem de Rooij), he developed a strongly conceptual painterly practice, concerned with testing what a painting can still be in the age of digital images.
