Anchored in painting yet extending into sculpture, print, and installation, Clémentine Bruno’s practice engages with art-historical references – ranging from Renaissance techniques to modernist forms – to explore presence and absence in visual representation. At Liste, she will present new suite of paintings born out of a lengthy process of layering and burying images beneath layers of gesso. Foregrounding the physical and conceptual underpinnings of making, her work unfolds through a technique she describes as “both ritualistic and repetitive,” where structures emerge, disappear, and resurface over time.

Clémentine Bruno (1994, Paris) lives and works in Paris and London. Recent exhibitions have been held at MendesWood DM, Brussels; Balice Hertling, Paris; Tabula Rasa, Beijing; Tonus, Paris; One Gee in Fog, Geneva; Project Native Informant, London; Clearing, Basel; Baleno International, Rome; and Nicoletti, London.
