Liste is one of the world’s leading art fairs and a vital platform for contemporary art. With a clear focus on recent developments in contemporary art, Liste closely monitors artistic tendencies while creating visibility for emerging galleries and artists.
It fosters relevant perspectives as they take shape, combines market expertise with curatorial rigour and offers guidance within a constantly evolving international art landscape. Beyond the exhibition itself, Liste promotes exchange, mentoring and long-term networking. Performances, talks, film programmes and collaborations make each edition into a space where contemporary art is not only displayed, but also discussed and expanded upon.

Since 2022, Liste has been operated by the non-profit Stiftung Liste Basel. The foundation ensures the long-term development of the fair and strengthens its role as a platform for emerging galleries and artists. Friends of Liste
Friends of Liste is a sponsor group that actively supports exceptional and ambitious gallery presentations. The recipients are selected by the Liste Committee in collaboration with the Friends of Liste board. In addition to providing support for individual presentations, the association serves as an active network whose members contribute to the long-term advancement of the next generation of artists and galleries.
History
Since its founding in 1996, it has been dedicated to presenting independent artistic positions that expand perspectives on contemporary art, and its significance has grown steadily. For galleries, collectors and institutions, it has become an indispensable guide for navigating the evolving landscape of art. Discover more on the history of Liste here.
Architecture
Since 2021, Liste has been held in Hall 1.1 at Messe Basel. The exhibition architecture was designed by the Belgian firm OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen in collaboration with Richard Venlet. Together, they developed an open, circular system that creates communal spaces, replacing the more labyrinthine structures of Liste’s previous location at the former Warteck Brauerei. Starting with the 2025 edition, the spatial concept was further developed by Martina Kausch Architektinnen in collaboration with Hagar Schmidhalter. Building on the existing architecture, they introduced a series of spaces with different viewing conditions, ranging from concentrated zones of encounter to open plazas.
