Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann explores the fascination of multiple arts, shows and exhibition formats ranging from magic to natural science, working with their immediate entertainment values and transposing them into fine art. Dissolving the boundaries that separate art and popular entertainment he merges worlds that are rarely associated in the same context. Illusion and dis- illusion, or their paradoxical coincidence, paired with a playful treatment of the connections between glorification and enlightenment mark the highly charged appeal of Gerrit Frohne-Brinkmann’s works.
Graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts, Hamburg in 2015, his work has been exhibited at Kunstlerhaus Bremen, Bundeskunsthalle Bonn and at Kunstverein in Hamburg. In 2016 he won ‘the Art Cologne Award for New Positions’; followed by the ‘Follow Fluxus Grant’ in 2017. The same year his works were shown at Kestner Gesellschaft Hannover, Artothek Cologne, Nassauischer Kunstverein Wiesbaden and Stadtmuseum Oldenburg. In 2018 he had solo shows at Caletta, Zurich, Galerie Noah Klink and Kunsthalle Bremerhaven.

FLAME is a collaboration between artists Taslima Ahmed and Manuel Gnam that first appeared in 2010 in Brussels. Through the lens of a 21st Century perspective FLAME uses streams of images to create new works of art based on their appearance on the screen which mediates our perception. For one of their ongoing series “Art Stacks,” well-known and expensive artworks are appropriated and repurposed for a new market, time and social constellation. By copying, cropping, stretching and cascading established and highly traded paintings FLAME attempts to meta-comment on how art is perceived, consumed and exchanged in today’s digitalised and globalised culture.
FLAME’s recent solo exhibitions include Galerie Noah Klink, Berlin (forthcoming, 2018) and Balice Hertling, Paris (2017); their recent group shows include Gagosian Gallery, Athens and Marlborough Chelsea, New York.
