Perejaume (Sant Pol de Mar, Barcelona, 1957) is one of the most referential Spanish artists working today, whose artistic production, inseparably intertwined with his literary work, has gradually given rise to a poetics of infinite metaphorical resonances in which painting coexists with other media.
One of the main concerns underlying Perejaume’s work lies in the desire to explore and expose reality as it is. The idea of the painting and of nature itself as spectacle, and of the viewer as participant in a complex dialogue between illusion and representation, have become central to his work. The project Postaler (Postcard rack, 1984), featured in important public collections such as the Museo Reina Sofía or MACBA, show us how he materializes these concerns. A metal postcard rack displays mirrors instead of postcards reflecting its immediate surroundings. Perejaume hiked up a mountain with the postcard rack to place it in different landscapes, forming a changing painting with a field of vision of 360 degrees, like a portable museum. At LISTE, we exhibit a selection of historical pieces related to this seminal work.
Perejaume was subject of a mid-career survey at MACBA in 1999, and has exhibited individually in some of the most important Spanish institutions. His work is featured in important collections such as Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, MACBA, “La Caixa” Collection, and numerous other institutions and private collections.
